Documenting the process and story behind each piece that has come and gone.

Trunk #1 Shell of Goyard Steamer

My very first piece of luxury french luggage was this shell of what once was a very nice Goyard steamer trunk. It was listed on Facebook marketplace in Texas. It is essentially just wooden panels, held together with the lozine edges. It has the brass corners and handles, and has Goyardine canvas on what was once the bottom of the trunk. Goyard trunks featured either zinc or canvas on their bottoms. The top half of the trunk is long gone. One could only imagine what had to have happened to this trunk over the years to end up in its current state. I sold this to a buyer in Texas in 2023.

Trunk #2 - Goyard Cabin "I.L."

My second piece of luxury French luggage was a large Goyard cabin trunk that I sourced from Massachusetts. This trunk was in pretty good condition outside of it being adorned with a hideous unoriginal center lock. This trunk was initially put up at auction, then purchased by an antiques dealer in Brimfield Massachusetts. I took a long drive up to the converted barn antique store and successfully acquired my first nearly complete piece of Goyard luggage. Highlights of this trip included stopping by a small ice cream shop with a petting zoo, and also eating an amazing burger at a restaurant that used to be a train station!! I owned this trunk for about a year and a half before selling it to a good friend in France. It has now been fully restored and no longer has that ugly replacement lock!

Trunk #3 Goyard Dome Top Wardrobe "A.D.A."

My third and perhaps most interesting purchase of luxury french luggage came with my Goyard Wardrobe trunk. In summary, I acquired this trunk for an insanely cheap price. It was painted over on almost every side and has some significant damages to the canvas. I purchased it from a woman in Long Island and we met up at a swap meet in Philly for the exchange. This trunk has roots in the New York/Hamptons area, and adorns the initials A.D.A. There is a strong chance this trunk could have been owned by American socialite Aida De Acosta. To hear more about the research process, read my full writeup HERE ! I am currently still working on restoring the trunk bit by bit. I've tried my best to uncover the canvas underneath the paint, but not without some mistakes and losses along the way!

Trunk #4 Louis Vuitton Rayee Steamer

My fourth piece of french luggage I acquired was a late 1800s Louis Vuitton steamer trunk with Rayee canvas. This trunk was acquired for an insanely low price, as the buyer had no idea they had a Louis Vuitton trunk. This could explain why they chose to cover it in hideous chrome paints. This trunk was a lot of work and I unfortunately didn't find much interest with it. I ended up selling this to a local woman who has a few Louis Vuitton trunks in her collection.

Trunk #5 Goyard Hat Box "F.C.E."

My fifth piece of luggage was this 1940s/50s Goyard hat box with a soft top! This was up for sale in France for a great price, so I purchased it and had it shipped all the way to the United States. I know that this hat trunk also had a matching piece of hard luggage for sale with it, I believe it was either a shoe or book suitcase. The most interesting thing about this piece is that I have yet to ever see another like it. One of my collector friends also adores this piece due to its uniqueness!

Trunk #6 Moynat Dome Top

My sixth piece of luggage was a dome top Moynat trunk covered in an ugly floral paper. This trunk was an interesting adventure. It was inside of a small general store of sorts that was located on an Amish farm in Pennsylvania. They sold straw hats and all sorts of interesting things! I attempted to take the floral paper off, but unfortunately it didn't come off very clean. This trunk doesn't hold much value and would take a lot of effort to restore. I currently use it for storage.

Trunk #7 Moynat Checkered "N.M.U."

My seventh addition to my collection was a 1912 Moynat trunk featuring a rare, yet fragile, checkered canvas. This trunk was acquired from a man in New Jersey who had owned the trunk for decades. This trunk has leather borders and straps, which are unfortunately in bad condition. The provenance of this trunk is amazing though! I was able to utilize the travel and shipping labels on the side of the trunk to root this trunk back to its original owner. Nicolas Maria de Urgoiti was a notable man in Spanish journalism in the early 1900s. This trunk was owned at one point by his granddaughter in NYC, but seems to have spent a large amount of time in and around Spain!

Trunk #8 Goyard Hat "R.H.A."

My eighth piece of luggage was a Goyard Women's Hat Trunk. This trunk was up for sale in Salt Lake City Utah. I never did find out who originally owned this piece of luggage, but I know that it had obvious roots to the D.C. area, as indicated by the labels. It had the interior cage and label still present. Unfortunately the condition of this trunk was very bad. It was missing part of its center lock and had replacement parts on the bottom. It also had leather borders, which meant it was deteriorating quickly. It also seemed to have small heat or fire damage. I did what I could to try and clean the brass and canvas, but I ultimately ended up selling this to a woman in Delaware. This trunk was not overly interesting to me and was beyond my capabilities of repair. The current owner has put the trunk under significant restoration and it has now been essentially rebuilt from the ground up while preserving some of its key components.

Trunk #9 Goyard with Steel Hardware "E.S."

Trunk number nine was this super huge Goyard trunk with a plain brown canvas and all steel hardware. This trunk was for sale online. The owner lived in Massachusetts and found this in the basement of an abandoned house. The trunk was found surrounded by rats and snakes and was in in absolutely horrible condition. This trunk was almost thrown out, but luckily I saved it! I picked the trunk up in Danbury Connecticut and during the trip I visited an abandoned castle, Sleepy Hollows NY, and an Alfred Hitchcock filming location.  I did some cleaning to the steel, but ultimately this trunk was too large and damaged to stay in the collection. I sold this to another collector, who I believe ended up using it for parts unfortunately. To my knowledge this is one of the largest models of trunks ever made by Maison Goyard.

Trunk #10 Goyard Motor Trunk

Number ten on my list was this small Goyard motor trunk. These sorts of trunks would have originally been on the back of cars before vehicles had efficient built in storage. This trunk was posted to Reddit and I ended up picking it up and staying the weekend in Annapolis Maryland!! This trunk would have originally been bright red, but it has been painted over at some point. I have tried removing the black paint, to some moderate success, but it makes a huge mess and I don't think I will continue restoring this piece unless I choose to do a completely fresh red paint job. I did clean the brass up nicely though. My favorite parts of this trunk are the latches! They are quite lovely! Very similar models were made for Bugatti and are currently on display in Goyard's corporate office. I sold this trunk in 2023.

Trunk #11 Goyard Cabin Trunk "F.B."

My eleventh trunk was this Goyard cabin trunk that I acquired from an online seller in Arizona. I have no idea about this trunk's past other than the fact that it was once inside of a fancy hotel in Paris! This trunk is in great condition overall and my friend Charly from the company Baggage Collection helped me do some restoration work to it when he visited me in the United States. It is unfortunately missing the inner liner and ribbons.

Trunk #12 Goyard Cabin with Steel Hardware

My twelfth trunk was this Goyard Cabin trunk. This trunk, similar to many others I've acquired, had been painted over. Similar to the very large one I had, this was also adorned with fully steel hardware. The inside had been relined as well. I purchased this online from a seller in Harrisburg Pennsylvania and I only had this trunk for a few months before selling it and the larger model together to a collector from New York.

Trunk #13 Aux Etats Unis Steamer "S.B.B"

Trunk number thirteen was this absolutely gorgeous Aux Etats Unis trunk. Aux Etats Unis trunks, although technically considered budget luxury trunks, are actually very difficult to find in the United States! I sourced this one online from a seller who lived in Long Island New York. She had owned the trunk for decades, originally purchasing it in New York for just $60.00. She brought it to Washington D.C., and then eventually back to New York. I have personally never seen such a large and beautiful trunk from Aux Etats Unis. The red and green stripes are quite amazing!

Trunk #14 Goyard Regence

I purchased this tiny little trunk from the Saint Honore store in Paris. Do I regret spending nearly a thousand on this? Perhaps. I wish they had green available, but I settled for this grey one! I use this to hold small items like necklaces and rings. I took the little holders out of it.

Trunk #15 Goyard Shoe Case "L.B."

Trunk fourteen was part of a set of three Goyard trunks I sourced from an online seler in Oslo Norway. All three trunks were passed down to the seller via her father who was given them by a friend who worked heavily within the fashion industry in Paris in the 70s and 80s. I don't know who the original owner was, but to find a matching set of three trunks in amazing condition from one seller is super rare! I really love this suitcase trunk, meant to hold 12 pairs of shoes! It has stickers with evidence of travel to Canada, Italy, and obviously Norway!

Trunk #16 Goyard Cabin Trunk "L.B."

This cabin trunk is the second of the set from Norway! There is not too much to say about this trunk! It is similar in size to the very first cabin trunk I owned. I did a fair amount of cleaning to the lozine borders and canvas. It unfortunately has a slightly strange upward warp on its top left side.  I sold this trunk to an individual in New York.

Trunk #17 Goyard Wardrobe Trunk "P.R."

This trunk is the third of the set from Norway. This is undoubtly one of the highlights of my collection. The canvas is in amazing condition and it has all but one drawer intact. It has a few loose hangers as well. I love wardrobe trunks and this is an exquisite example of a larger size one from Goyard. I love how the top piece lifts up seperately!

Other Pieces

Golf Le Fleur x Globetrotter Suitcase

This suticase is a collaboration between Tyler The Creator's company Golf Le Fleur and british luggage company Globetrotter. I use this for my travels. It has been to Italy, Switzerland, Norway, France, Germany, and the U.S.A.

Goyard 1980s Hunting Sweater

Isabelle Goyard released a run of hunting and horse realted items in the 80s. This sweater is the only one I've ever seen in the world. It is a unique addition to my collection and one of the only examples of a clothing piece made by Goyard other than scarves, shoes, and ties.
